Jesus Is My Friday

Tomorrow is Friday! Yes! What are you going to do this weekend? What will I be doing? Hmmmmm, let me see. Jason and I will do something awesome tomorrow night. I’ll be at the thrift store on Saturday. Saturday night, we’ll probably do a movie at home including popcorn and M&M’s with the peeps. Sunday morning brings amazing worship and the Word. Hopefully, we’ll get to go to El Giro for lunch. And Sunday night will be slowww time for the family.

Do you know what brings on all this fun and excitement? The fact that tomorrow is Friday! For as long as I can remember, Friday has meant the beginning of fun and adventure.

No school, lots of friends, music, laughter and relaxation. I honestly don’t think that you’ll find any of these words in Webster’s dictionary when you look up ‘Friday’, but then again, maybe old man Webster wasn’t lucky enough to experience it.

I remember making a lot of money on Friday when Jason and I worked at Longhorn Steaks, enabling us to enjoy our weekend just a little bit more.

Of course, we could have had fun with a cardboard box, but the funds gave us the gas money to drive around and find that perfect box! All-in-all Friday meant rescue from the boring awful week of work and hum-drum day to day grind.

Here I am, years later, and I still play my music loud when I actually remember that the weekend is here.

Lindsey keeps an old cd in the van that my sister, Julie, made for me. The first song is Loverboy, ‘Only the lucky ones.’ We will turn it up really loud and sing at the top of our lungs (with the windows down in the summer).

You may even hear us as we go around the square sounding like the Partridge family gone rock-and-roll.

On Friday, I get so excited when I find out that Jason and I have a hot date. I love knowing that the kids can turn their heads off for a couple of days. I praise the Lord for the weekend.

Jesus is my Friday, and He can be your Friday, too. Find rest and relaxation in Him. Let Him be the friend that you look forward to seeing and talking to.

Take a drive or walk with Him and find new adventures. Before Jesus came into my life, I had life-less days, long nights, and chaos due to bad decisions.

When I discovered my treasured Jesus, it was as if my weekends became my every days. I found love and laughter, peace and hope. I was able to cope with life, and actually enjoyed waking up every morning to a new day.

I do have days that seem unbearable to my merely human self. But because I know that He will never give me more than I can handle, I can turn to Him and He will guide me through.

I am sad for those of you who will not turn to Jesus and you try to handle life on your own. You are stuck in Monday. I want to invite you to Friday.

Live for the weekend. Look forward to a new day – a new life. I want to introduce you to the author of new—Jesus, the Lord of lords and King of kings.

Life is good. Life can be new. Jesus is the answer.

Peace and love, Cheryl
