School Approves Spending Resolution

Members of the Jasper County Board of Education (BOE) made short work of several business items at their regular meeting Tuesday, June 24.

One of the first actions they took was to approve a spending resolution that allows the school system to spend money based on the 2024-2025 budget, as the new budget numbers are not yet finalized. Because of House Bill 581, assessments have not yet been sent, pushing back the time when taxes can be collected. Therefore, for the school to legally operate, the spending resolution was necessary.

Supt. Kenny Garland presented the Career Technical Agricultural Education (CTAE) End of Pathway Results for the 2024-2025 school year. In the report, he noted 167 pathway completers with 153 of those successfully passing the End of Pathway Assessment. It was also noted this was the largest number of pathway completers and the highest percentage passing rate in school history.

The board approved a bid from ProLogic ITS for $86,586 to purchase 200 chromebooks. There were 20 bids for the chromebooks.

The board also approved the purchase of 27 Cleartouch panels for $116,944 from Micro Technology Consultants. It was the low bid from five proposals.

They also approved the purchase of 50 laptops from Bytespeed for $48,195 for faculty and staff use. There were 23 proposals from vendors.

Supt. Garland also presented several policies for a first reading as they have been recommended by the Georgia School Board Association for revisions.

The board a approved a recommendation for a one-grade salary increase in the current salary schedule for School Nutrition Assistants and Managers in the School. Nutrition Program. There has been an increase in participation, and the total cost of the raise is under $20,000.

The board approved several field trips and facility requests. They also approved the following items for surplus—a heavy duty radial arm saw, CTAE hospital beds, and technology printers.

Without having to go into closed session first, the board approved numerous personnel changes. They include:
