4-H Archery Team Competes

By KASEY HALL

Jasper County 4-H Agent

Jasper County was well represented by 19 team members who competed at the state 4-H outdoor archery match at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center earlier this month.

Those who competed and their division include fourth, fifth, and sixth graders A.J. Anderson, Brody Broadnax, Perry Capes, Max Cranfill, Natalie Davis, Paityn Hay, Wyatt Holliday, Jesse Norman, Sadie Simpson, Luke Tippens, and Jackson Williams (Cloverleaf compound); seventh and eighth graders Landon Adams, Addison Cagle, Parker Foster, Ashlynn McRae, Riley Perdue, and Luke Terry (Junior compound); and Nathan Davis and Hunter Horsley (Senior compound).

Brody Broadnax placed second out of the 139 participants in the individual Cloverleaf compound division made up of fourth – sixth graders. He received a medal at the awards presentation following the match that afternoon.

The 19 4-H’ers were accompanied at the state contest by four of their team coaches Allen Cagle, Jacob Foster, Scott Hay, and Robert Perdue along with their parents and additional family members. 4-H Agent Kasey Hall was also in attendance.

Special thanks to these four coaches along with Gretchen Pruett and Miranda Hudson who volunteered their time to serve as our 4-H archery team coaches this year! They have devoted so many hours to our local program as they shared their love for archery with our Jasper County 4-H’ers by leading their weekly practices, providing instruction and encouragement for them through the season, and attending their matches.

We would not be able to offer this program here without their dedication and willingness to serve as volunteers.

We would also like to thank those team parents and family members who stepped up and volunteered to serve as scorers at the match. They included Ashley and Robert Perdue who scored during the Junior match in the morning while Jorden Reed, Brian Rowe, and E.O. Minnoia scored in the afternoon during the Cloverleaf match. We appreciate you filling those critical roles for our team.

At this time, we would like to again recognize J.M. Wilkerson Construction in Marietta as our 4-H archery team’s platinum level sponsor and say thank you for their investment in our program. Their donation fully covered the cost of the 31 4-H’ers’ and six coaches’ personalized jerseys. We sincerely appreciate Coach Scott Hay for securing this significant sponsorship.
