Cougars 1-1 in Recent Region Outings
Piedmont Academy’s baseball team recorded a key region win last week by defeating Stratford Academy 9-2.
The Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the contest and then added two in the third, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Brayden Ross homered and drove in two runs to help led the offense while Zach Simmons was 2-for-2 with a double and a run.
Also contributing offensively were Jack Adams (2-for-4, one RBI), Chase Taylor (2-for-4. three runs), Ethan Barman (2-for-2, one double, one run, one RBI) and Tyler Griswell (1-for-1, two RBI).
Barman also had two stolen bases while Mason Tumlin, Griswell, Adams and Taylor each had one.
Simmons worked 6.2 innings to record the win striking out three batters. Noah Doolittle recorded the final out.
The win helped avenge a loss to the Eagles two days earlier for the Cougars.
Piedmont hosted a strong First Presbyterian team on Tuesday falling 6-0 to a Vikings team which is undefeated in region.
FPD scored runs in the first and second innings before two in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Vikings added one final run in the top of the seventh.
Adams and Taylor had the lone hits for the Cougars.
Jamus Wingate and Nick Gervasio handled the pitching duties with both recording two strikeouts.
The two teams will meet again Friday in Macon at 7 p.m.
