Donald ‘Duck’ Loren Pope

Donald “Duck” Loren Pope, 70, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025, at his residence in Jasper County.

Donald Loren Pope was born on October 15, 1954, in Monticello, to Lillie Mae Hulsey Pope and the late Jesse “Jake” Loren Pope. From a young age he loved to hunt and fish when he was not working in the family logging business.

Duck was a second-generation logger, following in the footsteps of his father and uncles in the family Pope Brothers Logging business. He later started his own trucking company, Donald Pope Trucking, which led him to create his own logging crew that he ran and operated until retirement.

He was a hard worker and would give you the shirt off his back and if he had something you needed, you were welcome to it. He loved his momma, his two beautiful sisters, and his baby brother. He and his dad shared a loved for dogs. The dogs were treated like humans and were allowed to eat from the table. If you have seen his dogs, Spot and Copper, lately you would understand.

He is survived by his children, Donald ”Donnie” Loren Pope Jr. (Johnna) of Monticello and Donald Jacob Pope (Tara) of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Loren Pope, Boone Pope, Jake Pope, and Will Pope; mother, Lillie Mae Pope of Monticello; sisters, Tricia Armistead of Monticello and Barbara Smolinski of Greensboro; brother, Roger “Deacon” Pope (Faye) of Monticello; nephews Gabe Stone (Susan), Tony Hood (Sandy), Jason Pope (Cindi) , David Pope (Katie), Ben Armistead (Erika); nieces Penny Jorgenson (Mike), and Natalie Davis (Preston); and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held, Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Jorgenson and Harry Hudson will officiate.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gabe Stone, Tony Hood, Jason Pope, Preston Davis, David Pope, Ben Armistead, Lee Pope, Lance Collins and John Lance.

The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to Enon Baptist Church, P. O. Box 265, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
