Primary School Principal Named
Supt. Kenny Garland announces the selection of Dr. Holly Harvil as the new principal of Jasper County Primary School, effective July 1, 2025.
Dr. Harvil was chosen following a community- based forum, where four finalists were selected from a pool of 13 applicants.
A resident of Butts County, and a native of Morgan County, Dr. Harvil, a 24 year veteran of education, began her career in Newton County at East Newton Elementary School as an elementary school teacher. In 2008, she began her administrative career as an assistant principal at Porterdale Elementary School, where she served until 2014.
Next, she served as assistant principal at Rocky Plains Elementary School until 2017. She advanced to the role of Principal in Pike County Primary School, where she served three years before taking her current role as the Principal of Cowan Road Elementary School in the Griffin-Spalding County School System.
“Dr. Harvil was the clear top choice based on feedback from our stakeholders, which included JCPS faculty and staff, School Governance Team (SGT) members, community business leaders, and central services leadership,” said Supt. Garland. “She met the established criteria for a successful candidate with her extensive leadership experience at the primary school level, her expertise in early learning, and her strong organizational and communication skills.”
Dr. Harvil earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Georgia in 2001, a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Troy State University in 2002, an Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University in 2006, and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Liberty University in 2018. At each of these milestones, she earned honor graduate status.
The Board will take official action at the April 14 monthly business meeting, as she will begin the transition to Jasper County. Dr. Harvil is replacing Pam Edge, an 11-year veteran as Principal of Jasper County Primary School, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
