Emma Jean Banks Thompson

Emma Jean Banks Thompson, age 85, of Gray, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, at Atrium Health Navicent Hospital in Macon.

Jean Thompson was born on June 10, 1939, in Monroe, to the late Jimmy Lee Banks and Drue Willie Starrett Banks. She married the late Thomas Franklin “Tommy” Thompson on May 29, 1959. She lived in Monticello off and on most of her life until moving to Gray about 10 years after the death of her husband in 2014.

Before retirement she worked as a clerk for the Appling Brothers Construction Company. She worked for a number of years as a sales clerk for Beckham’s Dime Store in Monticello before its closing.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her baby son, Thomas Bruce Thompson; daughters, Christy Linthicum and Rhonda Grimes; and brother, Anthony “Tony” Banks.

She is survived by her son Thomas Scott “Scotty” Thompson (Jimmy Mathis) of Tucker; sons-in-law, Martin Linthicum and Darrell Grimes; grandchildren, Candace (Michael) McCart, Chad Winther (Blake Leslie), Casey Winther, Michael (Allyson) Linthicum, Andrea (Gregory) Wasiek, Bin (Shannon) Grimes and Brandon (Laura) Grimes; great-grandchildren, Justin McCart, Jackson McCart and Ripken Grimes.

A graveside service was held Sunday, March 23, 2025, at West View Cemetery. Pastor Jason Parr officiated.
