David Leroy Johnson

David Leroy Johnson, age 75, formerly of Monticello, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, in Covington, Georgia.

David Johnson was born on October 17, 1949, in Thompson, Georgia to the late Ralph Johnson and Mary Morgan Johnson.

David married the late Karen Joan Jackson on March 31, 1968. He worked as a pipe fitter for the Local 72 Union at the Batchelor and Kimball Company in Lithonia.

David was a “jack of all trades”. He enjoyed “tinkering” with cars, collecting trinkets and rocks and going metal detecting.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Samuel Williams and brother, Kenny Johnson.

He is survived by his children, Trina (Morgan) Williams of Monticello, David (Susan) Johnson of Barnesville, Melissa (Vince) Lentini of Monticello and Melody (Scott) Sammons of Covington; grandchildren, Britt Williams, Jonathan Williams, Morgan (David) Ayers, Anthony Lentini, Andrew Lentini, Sicily (Nate) Battle, Eric (Leah) Petty, Dallas Wooley, Dakota Wooley, Ashley Johnson, Breanna Jones and Kaylee (Jon) Erickson; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Vernon (Marsha) Johnson of Ellenwood and Donnie (Penny) Johnson of Social Circle; sister, Karen Kunz of Sharpsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 3, 2025, at New Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Mansfield. Dr. Randal Reese will officiate. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Jordan Funeral Home.
