Connie Diane Marks

Connie Diane Marks was born January 31, 1957 in Monticello, to the late Paul Marks and Sylvia Gantt Marks. She went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2025.

Connie attended Washington Park Elementary School and graduated from Jasper County High School in 1975. She began employment at Monticello Manufacturing Company and shortly after became employed with the Jasper County Public School System as a Teacher Assistant and bus monitor where she worked for over 20 years.

At an early age, Connie joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was dedicated serving as usher, choir leader and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of The Bright and Morning Star Lodge #1.

Connie loved to crochet and sing. She was born with a flabby windpipe but just look at God. With her soprano voice, she was a lead singer in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Choir. Being encouraged by her Big Momma Emma at an early age, never imagining of becoming singers, Connie began singing solo (her first song “How Great Thou Art”) and then in 1973 inspired her sister, Gail to sing with her.

They first began as Connie and Gail and then the gospel singers “The Marks Sisters,” traveling to many churches and cities. Their mother was their manager, scheduling programs for her daughters and traveled with them wherever they went. The Marks Sisters continued their mission together of uplifting the Lord by spreading the gospel in song until Connie became disabled in 2013.

Their favorite singers were the Angelic Gospel Singers, which were most of their songs they sang.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a sister, Gail M. Harris of Conyers, a brother; Paul L. Marks (Sonja) of Panama City Beach, Fla; five nieces and nephews: Unita L. Harris, Robert G. Harris III, Charlese M. Marks, Brittany T. Farley and Israel Nickson; three great nephews: Trevalance Farley, Jr., Brayden Farley and Cayden Farley. A godchild Saniyah Bullard. Also, a host of cousins and friends.

Ms. Marks was laid to rest Saturday at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Rev./Dr. Jimmy Horton officiated.
