Two Canes Sign on Signing Day

The Monticello Hurricane football program continued to show success from the 2024 football season as two senior football players inked national letters of intent (NLI) to play at the next level.

Seniors Demonte Greene and Jay Vinson signed their letters to further their educational and playing career on national signing day. Greene, a cornerback, signed with nationally renowned football powerhouse Georgia Military College. Vinson, a tight end, inking with Point University, an up and coming program that plays in the NAIA, out of West Point, Ga.

Greene, 6’4” and 180 pounds, started at corner this past season for the Hurricanes, while splitting time on the offensive side of the ball at receiver. A four-year player for the Canes, Demonte finished his career with 44 receptions for 564 yards and eight touchdowns offensively, and on the defensive side finished with 66 total tackles, three interceptions that he returned for 68 yards, with one of those being returned for a touchdown.

Vinson, at 6’1” and 195 pounds, played on the offensive side of the ball as a tight end/h-back, while moving out wide to receiver some during the season. Used primarily as a blocker, Jay still finished his career as a Hurricane with ten receptions for a total of 69 yards.

Coach Ashley Henderson said, “Congrats to DeMonte and Jay. Very proud of both these guys for doing the work both on and off the field it takes to earn these opportunities. I know both will represent all of Monticello well and I look forward to watching their careers and seeing them earn a degree from their respective schools. We’ve had 7 kids sign in the last 3 years and I do believe this is just the tip of the iceberg. It should be a great lesson for middle school players and below if you take care of business in the classroom and do what it takes to be successful on the field opportunities will be out there.”
