Cougars Earn Win Tuesday

Piedmont Academy’s varsity boys basketball team took to the court four times in the past week.

The Cougars hosted Mount de Sales on Jan. 29 falling 66-49 despite 14 points from Corbett Crews. Chase Taylor, Camden Moss and Tyler Griswell each finished with nine points for Coach Christian Palmer.

Piedmont then traveled to Stratford Academy on Friday, falling 72-58 in region play. Moss scored 23 points while Crews (12 points) and Taylor (11 points) both finished in double figures.

It was a balanced offensive effort for the Cougars as eight players scored points.

The Cougars lost a close 66-63 game to Windsor at home on Monday. Crews and Barrett Downing led the teams with 14 points while Moss added 11. Taylor finished with nine points while Hunter Thomson scored six and Ethan Barman added four and Griswell both added four.

Piedmont got in the win column with a 60-58 victory against John Milledge at home. A 23-point effort from Moss helped lead the way while Crews and Taylor both finished in double figures with 12 points.

The Cougars trailed 20-15 after the first quarter but the game was tied at 28 by halftime. The Trojans held a 45-41 lead after three quarters before Piedmont (5-19) used a 19-13 run in the fourth quarter to secure the region victory.

Griswell and Thomson both finished with four points Tuesday. The win helped avenge a 17-point loss to JMA earlier this season.

“We will learn from all of these games moving forward,” Palmer said.

The final regular season game is set for Friday at home against First Presbyterian in region play.
