Jasper Co. 4-H Agent
The Jasper County 4-H archery program was represented by 25 team members who competed at the annual State Indoor 4-H Archery Match at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry on January 18. There were 761 4-H’ers registered to shoot from all across Georgia on that Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday in five different timed groups or flights.
The Cloverleaf (4th, 5th, and 6th grades) compound team members included AJ Anderson, Layton Betsill, Brody Broadnax, Greyson Brock, Jaxon Buice, Perry Capes, Cale Cooper, Alexis Gee, Paityn Hay, Wyatt Holliday, Wyatt Hudson, Sarah Lamb, Jesse Norman, Maddox Patterson, Sadie Simpson, Luke Tippens, and Jackson Williams.
The shooters on the Junior (7th and 8th grades) compound team who competed included Landon Adams, Addison Cagle, Ashlynn McRae, Riley Perdue, Bodee Smith, and Luke Terry.
The Senior (9th – 12th grades) compound team consisted of Nathan Davis and Leigha Perkins.
They were accompanied by team coaches Allen Cagle, Jacob Foster, Miranda Hudson, and Robert Perdue; 4-H Agent Kasey Hall; and the 4-H’ers’ parents and additional family members who came to support them. Special thanks to team parents Brooke Capes, Phillip Capes, Jennifer Lamb, and Brian Rowe and Coach Miranda who volunteered to assist with scoring the targets at the match and parent volunteer Ashley Perdue who coordinated our scorers on site.
Jasper County had two 4-H’ers score in the top 10 overall this year in their respective divisions. Sixth grader Brody Broadnax placed first out of 191 participants in the Cloverleaf compound division with an outstanding score of 300 (a perfect score is 330).
This is his third year on the team. It’s worth noting that last year he placed second in this division and improved on his score by six points. Brody also had 12 perfect bullseyes or 11’s which was almost double the number the 4-H’er who placed second behind him scored.
Eighth grader Bodee Smith placed eighth overall in the Junior males division out of 92 participants. This is a very impressive placing in his first year on the team.
The team is now looking forward to their state outdoor match that will be held on Saturday, May 3 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Putnam County.
We would like to recognize J.M. Wilkerson Construction in Marietta as our 4-H archery team’s platinum level sponsor. Their donation fully covered the cost of the 31 4-H’ers’ and six coaches’ new personalized jerseys that they just received. Special thanks to team parent Scott Hay for securing this significant sponsorship. Scott also recently attended the certified coaches training at the Fortson 4-H Center and has now come onboard as our newest archery team coach.
