Canes Makeup Game With A Win

After weathering the winter storm and postponement and cancellation of two games, the Monticello Hurricanes basketball team returned to the road last Tuesday to take on the Caliphs of W.D. Mohammed out of southeast Atlanta.

Coming into the game off of a 51-48 win over Southwest Atlanta to open region play at 1-0, the boys were looking to take advantage of the extra rest offered by the unscheduled time off.

The Hurricanes led throughout, and a balanced, consistent scoring attack throughout the game led to a 15-point Hurricane advantage at the half, ahead 34-19, and worked out to a final score of 70-44.

They were led in scoring by junior Jamarkus Thomas with 19 points, followed by sophomore Dereon Pennamon with 16, and fellow sophomore Chance Ross with 10.

The Canes were to be in action against region foe Lamar County on January 21, but was postponed due to another winter storm coming across the state. They will play a region game at Towers High in Decatur Friday, and a non-region contest in Conyers against the Salem High Seminoles on Saturday. After those contests the Hurricanes will return home to take on region rival Social Circle on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Come out and support the Canes as they work hard on their fight towards region and state playoffs.
