Better Health and Fitness (BhFit) Kicks Off With ‘Strive to Drive’ Event
The BhFit (Better Health and Fitness) Project, funded by Grant Number G28RH46287 from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is on a mission to transform the landscape of health and wellness for young men in our community.
In collaboration with the Morehouse School of Medicine, BhFit aims to tackle the pressing issues of addiction and mental health, providing vital resources and support to those in need.
Kicking off its monthly Peer Support Groups, BhFit will host the “Strive to Drive” Opioid Awareness Workshop for males ages 16-30 on Saturday, Feb. 1 from noon until 3 p.m. at The Get Ahead House, located at 731 Funderburg Drive in Monticello.
This event promises to be impactful, featuring guest speaker Andre Strickland from Body Unlimited, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering men who have faced addiction and incarceration. Strickland’s insights will provide attendees with valuable tools to confront the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual challenges that often accompany addiction.
Adding to the event’s appeal, Five Star Corvette will present a car show, engaging young men in conversations about overcoming adversity. Members of the Corvette community will share their personal stories, illustrating how they triumphed over addiction and found success against the odds.
The project emphasizes the importance of community partnerships, working closely with organizations like the Get Ahead House and Oconee Center Behavioral Health Services. These collaborations enhance BhFit’s reach and effectiveness, ensuring that young men have access to the support they require on their journey to recovery and better health.
