5 Hurricanes Named All-State
Recruit Georgia, a web-based recruiting database that was established in 2014, last week revealed their annual All-State teams for each classification. Listed below are the five Monticello football players who were recognized by their staffers as worthy of an Honorable Mention nod for their contributions on the football field this season, in helping the Hurricanes to an 8-4 record and 2nd round appearance in the GHSA State Playoffs.
Cope Durand, LB – Durand finished his sophomore season with 166 total tackles (109 solo/57 assisted), along with 13 tackles for loss (TFL) and four sacks.
Jalen Stewart, RB – Stewart, who carried the load on offense this season for the Hurricanes, completed his senior season with 1,374 yards on 181 carries and 13 TD.
Ty’mir Thornton, DL – Slowed by injury for part of the season, Thornton, a senior, was still was able to rack up 56 total tackles, 15 TFL, a team leading nine sacks and caused two fumbles.
Tyrin Epps, DL – Epps finished his sophomore year with 106 total tackles (70 solo/36 assisted) along with 12 TFL and six sacks.
Cam Farley, LB – Farley finished second on the team in tackles with 130 (82 solo/48 assisted), a team leading 19 TFL, four sacks, and two interceptions from his middle linebacker position.
