Board of Elections Is Conducting Inventory
The Jasper County Board of Elections and Registration met Tuesday, Dec. 17, and all three board members, Chairman Guy Tucker, Vice-Chair Mark Logan, and member David McGuire were present. Newly appointed Elections Supervisor Kerri Moseley was also present.
Mr. Tucker provided an update on an inventory underway of all of the equipment currently housed for elections in Jasper County. He shared that he talked with the Registrar’s Office and is in conversations with the Secretary of State’s Office (SOS), who issues the elections equipment, regarding the equipment inventory. Several discrepancies have been found during the inventory process and Mr. Tucker advised he would continue working with the SOS to reconcile any discrepancies of inventoried items.
Mr. Logan spoke on a 12 month study the board will be doing. The study will look at population growth centers in the county, evaluate the storage needs of all election equipment and ballots, identify the estimated number of poll managers and workers needed for the next 10 years and examine the need for any changes/additions/subtractions/updates to polling precincts and/or precinct locations in the county.
As part of the 12 month study, the board has a planned March meeting to invite voter opinion on polling precincts and locations. The board plans to solicit citizen comments prior to said March meeting to get citizen input on any desired changes to polling precincts and locations.
A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved to appoint Kerri Moseley as the new Elections Supervisor.
The 2025 election calendar for Jasper County was discussed and includes a June election for state Public Service Commissioners and municipal elections in November.
Discussion ensued regarding making changes to the physical spaces currently used by the for the work of the board. Some of the changes include the moving and storage of documents, making room in the safe for document storage and a small expansion of the server room.
The server room expansion will be done by Jasper County Sheriff’s Office inmate labor. The timing of the expansion is unknown as it depends on the availability of inmate labor.
The board stated that the transfer of responsibilities, documents and record keeping to the newly formed Board of Elections and Registration will be completed by January 1, 2025.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 pm.
The next meeting is January 21, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the BOC room on the first floor of the Jasper County Courthouse.
