The Clark County Lady Indians kicked off their 2024-25 season with a spirited battle on the road against Scotland County on Tuesday night. Under the guidance of first-year head coach Jade Birck, the Lady Indians showcased a balanced and determined effort, highlighted by an impressive debut performance from freshman Sydnee Binsbacher.
The Lady Indians came out strong in the first quarter, seizing a 14-10 lead. Four players contributed offensively, with Binsbacher leading the charge with seven points. Meanwhile, Scotland County’s Charlee Holland kept her team within reach, hitting an early three-pointer to help the Lady Tigers stay close.
However, the second quarter proved challenging for Clark County. Their shooting cooled off while Scotland County found their rhythm, led by Holland’s 10-point surge and five additional points from Kwynn Hamlin. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Indians 17-6 in the frame, sending Clark County into halftime trailing 27-20.
The Lady Indians regrouped in the third quarter, narrowing the gap slightly with a 12-11 edge. Binsbacher once again took the lead offensively, scoring eight of the team’s points, while Scotland County spread their scoring across four players.
Clark County mounted a valiant effort in the final quarter, with Binsbacher pouring in 11 points in a determined push to erase the deficit. Despite their rally, Scotland County held on for a hard-fought 50-45 victory in the season opener.
Binsbacher delivered a stellar performance for the Lady Indians, scoring 26 of the team’s 45 points—more than half their total. Tianna Little contributed eight points, while Maggie Wheeler added four. Kayla Yates and Ava McKay rounded out the scoring with three and two points, respectively. Clark County hit 6 of 15 free throws in the game.
Scotland County was led by Holland’s 19-point effort, with Hamlin adding 15 and Lilly Frederick chipping in 10. Keely Brown and Ailea Hayes combined for six points. The Lady Tigers struggled slightly at the line, going 9 for 23.
After the game, Coach Birck expressed her pride in the team’s effort. “I’m so proud of these girls,” she said. “Every time I asked them for something, they delivered.”
