The Clark County Lady Indians are embarking on a new era under first-year head coach Jade Birck, a former player for the program herself. With a youthful but determined roster, Birck has a clear vision for the team’s evolution and success this season.
Expectations for the Season
“I have high expectations for the Clark County Lady Indians,” said Birck. “We have the ability to make every game competitive this season. We lost five seniors, but we have a young group that is hungry and willing to step up.” Birck emphasized the team’s athleticism and chemistry, adding, “Our program has a bright future, and it starts with this group.”
Key Players to Watch
While the Lady Indians are working as a cohesive unit, Birck highlighted several players to watch. “Kaylie Yates returns as a veteran, and Trinity Little looks to play a big role on our squad this year. Emery Goings and Tianna Little are back for their second season of varsity basketball, and Ava McKay is returning to the sport, bringing a lot on both ends of the floor.” Birck also pointed to Maggie Wheeler and versatile freshman Sydnee Binsbacher as key contributors who will provide valuable minutes.
Strengths and Style of Play
“This team is very scrappy and quick,” Birck noted. “They are aggressive, play great defense, and have bought into their roles. The Lady Indians’ effort and enthusiasm is also a huge strength.” As for the team’s style of play, Birck said, “We hope our aggressive defense will create a lot of turnovers and more opportunities on offense. We want to outwork our competition and give our best effort mentally and physically every night.”
Areas of Focus for Improvement
In practice, Birck is focusing on execution and offensive production. “We want to be more dominant on offense and utilize transition more. Our players work hard, but we need to score more points on average this season to reach our goals.”
Goals and Definition of Success
The Lady Indians have set ambitious goals for the season. “This team wants to compete for a Conference and District title late in the season,” Birck said. “We know in order to do that, we must play to our full potential every game.” Beyond wins and losses, Birck defines success as building a culture of competitiveness and teaching players to be great teammates and leaders.
Coaching Journey and Excitement
Birck’s journey to her first head coaching role has come full circle. “I started as the Varsity Girls Assistant and 7th Grade Girls Coach last year. Before that, I was a student assistant at Columbia College. Being a head coach in my hometown, for a program I played in, means a lot,” she said.
Assisted by Corbyn Harper and Madison Gray, Birck feels well-supported. “They bring a lot of knowledge and different perspectives that benefit the team,” she said.
For Coach Birck and the Lady Indians, the 2024-25 season isn’t just about results—it’s about building a legacy and creating a foundation for years to come. “I hope to be a part of something great at Clark County,” Birck concluded.
