Joseph Rowell Lewis

Joseph Rowell Lewis, age 80, of Monticello, passed away on his birthday, November 26, 2024, at his residence.

“Joe” Lewis was born in Chamblee, Ga. on November 26, 1944, to the late Eugene Lewis and Martha Lois Rowell Lewis. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

Joe Lewis worked as a manufacturing technician for Lucent Technologies for about 30 years. He enjoyed all outdoor activities which included mowing his yard, walking and just enjoying spending time outdoors. He loved helping out with the veteran services and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years and 360 days, Janet Gibson Lewis on April 24, 2019.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Leah “Jan” Lewis of Monticello; sisters, Jean Spruill of Lilburn and Jean Cain of Gainesville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at West View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, prior to the service at West View Cemetery.
