Eagle Scout Soars High
Kaylee Shea Slocumb, 14 years-old, of Monticello, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.
Miss Slocumb was recognized in a Court of Honor ceremony on November 9. She is the second female scout to earn the rank of Eagle from Troop 331G in Monticello. Approximately five percent of all Scouts attain the Eagle rank and about two per cent are female.
Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project to earn their Eagle.
Miss Slocumb earned 44 merit badges and chose to install an outdoor flagpole at Monticello First United Methodist Church as her service project. Kaylee is a founding member of Troop 331G and has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Den Chief. She received the World Conservation Award and National Outdoor Achievement in Camping.
Miss Slocumb is a member the Marching Hurricanes and Beta Club at Jasper County High School, where she is a freshman.
She is the daughter of Jarret and Melissa Slocumb of Monticello.
