2024-25 Mat Cougars Aim for More Success

Piedmont Academy’s varsity wrestling team will look to continue building on the success it has enjoyed in recent years during the 2024-25 season.

Coach Nick Meadows has several returning wrestlers who should excel on the mat this season.

Austin Anglin, who finished third as an eighth grader at 106, will compete at 113 this season.

Senior Scott Swann, a three-time state placer, will be at 132. Senior Caleb Benton, a transfer from Locust Grove, should make an immediate impact at 138.

Defending state champion Colt Leddon will compete in the 144-pound division. Senior Daniel Joseph, a two-time state placer, is at 157.

Jamus Wingate is a two-time state runner-up at 165.

Junior Noah Doolitle, also a transfer from Locust Grove, is at 175. Freshman Brody Plunett will also see mat time at 175.

Senior Trenton Jones was third at state a season ago and will compete at 190. Sophomore Tyler McVey will also compete at 190.

Junior Braxton Floyd is leading the competition for the 215-pound spot.

“We should be a pretty tough traditional team this season,” Coach Meadows said.

The Mat Cougars begin their new season Saturday at 9 a.m. at Ola High School.
