Jasper, Country Elect Trump

Nearly 78 percent of eligible Jasper County voters turned out for the general election, and like the country, Jasperites strongly supported Donald J. Trump for president.

Some 9,120 voters turned out, most of them in advance voting, and elected Donald Turmp over Kamala Harris.

In Jasper County, Donald Trump received 7,195 votes to Kamala Harris 1,879.

In other contested races, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins received 7,325 votes to 1651 for Alexandra “Lexy” Doherty.

In the state house, incumbent Dale Washburn received 7,186 vote to his democratic challenger Anita Hyland’s 1,701.

A number of other candidates won their seats without opposition. Most of the local elections were settled during the primaries back in May, with no Jasper County races to be determined at this time.

Michele Coward secured her seat on the Jasper County Board of Education. On the proposed constitutional amendments, Jasperites voted yes 5,616 to no votes of 2,959 on number 1. On the second amendment votes were almost even with 4,223 voting yes, and 4,225 voting no.

On the referendum question 5,691 voted yes to 3,005 voting no. Both amendments and the referendum passed statewide.
