Lady Cougars Win On Senior Night

The Piedmont Academy softball team celebrated Senior Night with a key region win Tuesday.

The Lady Cougars (13-3, 4-3) earned a 4-3 win by scoring the go ahead run in the bottom of the seventh. Piedmont had tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Teagan Hinson and Kamie Gibby, both seniors, helped lead the way as both homered.

Shaniyah Lane, another of the team’s seniors, was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI and had four stolen bases.

MacKenzie Plunkett went the distance in the pitcher’s circle with nine strikeouts.

Other seniors on the 2024 team are Kylee Keck, Addison Jones, Marissa Holder and Memphis Sweat. Jones added a hit and scored a run in Tuesday’s win.

First Presbyterian scored runs in the first, second and third innings while Piedmont pushed runs across in the first, third, sixth and seventh.

The Lady Cougars fell to Tattnall Square 17-8 on Sept. 25 on the road.

Piedmont took a 5-3 lead after the top of the second inning but the Lady Trojans scored eight runs in the bottom of the inning to take control of the game.

Gibby had a homer for the Lady Cougars with three RBI. Keck was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI while Shaniyah Lane had a triple and drove in three runs.

Holder was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI and Sarah Ellen Stroud scored two runs. Peyton Whitfield scored two runs.

Plunkett recorded three strikeouts.

The Lady Cougars will travel to Mount de Sales today, Oct. 3 for a 6 p.m. region contest.
