Tie-Breaker Counts In First Contest Week

The first week of The Monticello News football contest garnered much interest, and the tie-breaker had to be utilized to name a winner.

Lots of people made the honor roll this first week, but two entrants rose to the top having 14 correct picks. Nelson Cullum and Neil McElroy both correctly guessed the winners of 14 games listed. And their tie-breaker guesses were close…Mr. McElroy guessed 38 points would be scored in Monticello’s 17-6 win over Wilkinson County wheras Mr. Cullum guessed 37 points would be scored. Therefore Mr. Cullum was the winner because he was closest to the tie-breaker score.

For his effort, Mr. Cullum picked up a $25 prize plus bragging rights from Walker Jordan, president of the Bank of Monticello, sponsor of the week.

Nearly two dozen players made the Honor Roll this first week, making them eligible to win four tickets to the Chick-fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta at the end of the year. Every time a players gets 12 or more right, he or she gets a chance on the Honor Roll.

At the end of the contest, a random drawing will be held and one lucky person will win the prize.

Last week, LSU messed up many contest players who did not expect USC to defeat LSU, in a close one, 27-20.

There were other surprises, which happens each week, and keeps the contest interesting.
