Bettie Bowron Pound

Bettie Bowron Pound, age 84, of Valdosta passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at her residence.

Bettie Pound was born in Jackson, Miss. on January 26, 1940, to the late Clifford Kirby Bowron and Ina Jean Pace Bowron. She graduated from Forest Hill School in 1958 and met the love of her life shortly thereafter. After meeting and marrying Clarence Braxton “Brack” Pound, Jr., they moved to Monticello.

Bettie’s favorite activity was remodeling the many homes she and her family lived in while residing in Griffin. She remodeled seven homes. In addition to that, she decorated two office buildings for Brack’s Insurance Agency. In their retirement years, she remodeled a cabin at Lake Winfield Scott located on Slaughter Mountain facing Blood Mountain in North Georgia.

She adored her family more than anything. She was a fabulous wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was well-known for the many meals she prepared for family and friends.

However, we cannot forget to mention her favorite pastime. She had a passion for the Atlanta Braves which spanned over 50 years.

She was loved and adored by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband, Brack Pound of Valdosta; brother, Kirby (Margie) Brown; children, Doug (Patty) Pound, Laura (John) Hansen and Clifford Lee Pound; grandchildren, Lacey (Dan) Duggan, Sara (Kevin) Thompson, Mary Beth (Briggs) Smotherman, Destiny (Caleb) King and Taylor (Allison) Pound; and great-grandchildren, Lilly Ann King, Braxton Ellis Pound, John Braxton (JB) Smotherman, Harper Elizabeth Thompson, Shepard Lang Smotherman, Henley Jean Thompson, Laura Jeanine Duggan, Noah Wilder Pound and Brooks Reid King.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Park Avenue Church in Valdosta.

A private family graveside service will be held in West View Cemetery at a later date.
