Ellis Lloyd ‘Buck’ Benton

A celebration of life for Ellis Lloyd “Buck” Benton is planned for Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 2 p.m., at New Bethel Grove Baptist Church, 527 New Bethel Grove Church Road, Monticello, Ga. 31064. Rev. Jerry L. Williams, pastor.

Mr. Benton died on June 5, 2024. He was born on April 29, 1956 to the late Charles Frank Benton and Barbara Stone Benton.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Stone and Ernest Benton; and sister, Juanita Stone.

Mr. Benton was educated in the Jasper County School System and later was employed by Feldspar Mine, William Brother Lumber Company and Benton Welding.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards (Tonk and Spades), watching western movies, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. “Buck” was known for cracking jokes. He never met a stranger.

Mr. Benton leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Shirley Wise Benton; daughters, Shakita Benton, Sharita Wise and Sonya Wise, all of Monticello; grandchildren, Jamel Gude of Atlanta, Machi Victrum, Macy Dudley, Shania Victrum, Jacoby Dudley, and Carter Kelly, all of Monticello. Also, brothers, Charlie Lee Benton (Alberta) of Oxford, and Gerald Benton (Angela) of Monticello; sister, Martha M. Benton of Monticello; sister-in-law, Kathey Baugh of Eatonton; brother-in-law, Ray Wise. He is also survived by an uncle, Charlie “Bay” Stone of Jacksonville, Fla., and aunts, Bertha Crawford, Virginia Benton and Mildred White (Joe) all of Monticello; also, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
