140+ Graduate from JCHS

More than 140 students graduated from Jasper County High School last Friday.

A rainy day led to the graduates having to practice in the school gym in preparation for commencement, but Supt. Kenny Garland and his staff studied the weather and made the call late Friday afternoon, in the rain, to hold the exercises on Hurricane Field. The rains held off, and all were allowed to witness the festivities.

Had it been moved indoors, seating would have been limited.

Hannah Tinney, senior class vice president of graduation, welcomed everyone. Brandon Ridley, senior class vice president of field day, led the pledge of allegiance. Cameran Tuggle, senior class treasurer, gave the invocation.

Then Tiffani McClain gave the salutatory address, followed by Carlie Hall with the valedictory address. (The graduation section in last week’s Monticello News mistakenly identified the val and sal. The News apologizes for the error.)

Tom Schilling, senior class vice president of awards, told of the class’s gift to the school, which is two concrete benches to be placed around the plaza at Hurricane field.

JCHS Principal Jim Strength presented the class to Supt. Kenny Garland, and they then presented diplomas.

Tiffani McClain lead the turning of the tassel, and Reagan Mask, senior class secretary gave the benediction.

Honor graduates other than the val and sal include Carli Faith Cook, Trenton Reed Durham, Sydney Skye Eats, Breanna Nadine Fowler Lorilei Elizabeth Fowler, William Edward Garvin, Noah Caden Gerber, Emma Rose Homes, Loralye Alexis Irwin, Madison Rae Kelly, Carlos Lugo Ramirez, Reagan Marie Mask, Jakob Isaac Mathis, Chassidee Marie Matthews, Tyler Martin McCrea, Montana Gaige Mitchell, Emma-Marie Gracy Mix, Farrah Elizabeth Owensby, Jennifer Yadira Perez Perez, Jorden RayAnn Reed, Bailey Ellen Elizabeth Rosine, Emily Sanchez, Thomas Scott Schilling, Kelly Shea Selman, Bethany Ann Strength, Oriayha Joydae Thurman, Cameran Alexis Tuggle, Carley Jean Whitmire, James Daniel Williams, and Becky Leigh Wilson.

Many other graduates were recognized as Beta Club or National Technical Honor Society graduates, and others were noted for being gifted, AP Scholars, and class representatives.
