Two Die in Motorcyle Wrecks In Jasper County Last Week

ROUNDABOUT ON HWY. 83 NORTH

Motorcycle wrecks on opposite ends of the county last week resulted in the death of the driver in both cases.

Bryson Bashon Jackson, of Monticello, was killed last week when he wrecked off Hwy. 83 south near the Monroe County Line. Apparently, Mr. Jackson was returning from a trip to Macon, and according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), lost control of the motorcycle which left the road, and ended up in a wooded area off the road.

Family members had reported him missing on Thursday, according to the JCSO, and his remains were found Friday after law enforcement pinged the last location of his cell phone.

A celebration of life for Mr. Jackson is planned for this Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. John C.M.E. Church, 240 Key Street in Monticello, Ga. 31064. Rev. Ricky Hammons, pastor/eulogist.

Meanwhile, on Hwy. 83 north at the new, convoluted round-about, a motorcycle with two persons wrecked Friday evening.

The report from the Georgia State Patrol explaians what happened: Vehicle #1, a motorcycle, was traveling north on Hwy. 83 near E. C. Kelly Road. As the vehicle traveled, the driver failed to maintain the travel lane and struck a raised concrete curb within a roundabout construction area. The vehicle continued through the area and struck several more concrete curbs. During this sequence of events, the vehicle became airborne and overturned. Both occupants were thrown from the motorcycle and all came to a final, uncontrolled rest within or near the roundabout.

The driver, William McElroy of Biship, 55, was transported via ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital to await Lifeflight to Macon. The passenger was transported via ambulance to Macon. The driver later succumbed to injuries sustained during the crash.

Local law enforcement worked a total of 13 wrecks in the last week.
