Cougars Fall at Home to Edmund Burke

Piedmont Academy was never able to get on track offensively last Friday and dropped a 21-0 home contest to Edmund Burke as a result.
The Cougars (1-3 overall) trailed 15-0 at halftime and allowed just one second half score by the Spartans. Mason Tumlin led the Piedmont offense with 65 total yards.
Keith Hasker made two catches for 13 yards.
“Defensively, we gave up two big plays but forced three turnovers,” coach Clint Satterfield said. “We never could get into a rhythm offensively and had four turnovers. We basically only put together one big drive.”
Keith Hasker had two catches for 13 yards while Corbett Crews made an 8-yard reception. Owen Piedra had 27 yards on the ground.
Hunter Thomson finished with 11 overall tackles while Silas Cowan also had a big effort on the defensive side of the football for the Cougars with 10 total tackles. Daniel Joseph finished with nine tackles and Jacob Diamond added eight.
Ridge Stroud (six tackles) and Braxton Floyd (five tackles) also were defensive standouts. Owen Piedra had an interception.
Edmund Burke was led by quarterback Grant Mobley who rushed for 169 yards on 19 carries in addition to passing for 38 additional yards.
While the 2023 schedule has already presented some challenges, things are about to get even tougher for the Cougars.
Piedmont will host Central Fellowship Christian Academy (3-0-1) this week for Homecoming at Cougar Field.
“We will continue to try and find an identity on offense and play with some consistency,” Satterfield said. “The next five games are all against opponents ranked in the top five of the state.”
The Lancers are coming off a bye week. The Macon-based school defeated GHSA foe Crawford County 31=29 on Sept. 8. The Lancers have been involved in close games other than their opener in which they defeated Rock Springs Christian Academy 44-0.
CFCA was undefeated a season ago finishing 13-0 with the state title for GIAA AA. In 2023 the team is led by Knox Walls, who has rushed for 308 yards and four touchdowns. Judson Walls has added 280 yards and five scores. Knox Walls is also the team’s leading receiver with 100 yards on eight receptions.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
