City Posts To Be Contested

The qualifying period ended last Thursday for the upcoming November 7 election for the City of Monticello.

A total of seven people have qualified for various seats amongst the council.

Qualifying for Mayor Pro Tem were incumbent Doug Currie and Teresa Saunders.

Qualifying for District 1, Post 2 were incumbent Cynthia Miller, Dyshon Norwood and Gail Harrell.

Qualifying for District 2, Post 2 were incumbent Jenny Murphy and Melissa Watson.

The city election is nonpartisan. Andrea Brown serves as the election superintendent for the city, and voting will take place at the courthouse. The last day to register and be eligible to vote will be Tuesday, Oct. 10. Polls will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If a runoff is deemed necessary, the runoff election will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
