Leonard Davis

With sadness in our hearts we announce the passing of Leonard Davis from labor to reward on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.
He was at home surrounded by his wife and kids. Leonard was born on June 18, 1948 to the late John Thomas Davis and the late Margaret Clark.
Leonard married the love of his life Catherine Jackson Davis, Oct. 18, 1969 and they have celebrated 53 years of marriage. He and Catherine loved to dance and travel together making memories with their kids and grandkids.
Leonard graduated from Jasper County Training School in 1967 and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army and United States Air Force Reserve. As an example of his heroic nature, he was rewarded a Purple Heart while serving in the United States Army.
Through hard work and dedication Leonard completed 38 years at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins before retiring in 2012. In his hometown of Monticello, Leonard was a vital figure in the community. He loved to help others as he worked part-time for years with the Monticello Police Department.
Some of his proudest moments were coaching softball at Jasper County Recreation Department. He served on the board at the Get-A-Head house, the Board at St. James A.M.E. Church, and was an active member of the Bonner Street Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings Johnny Lee Davis and Ella Whitening.
Survivors of his memories include his wife Catherine Jackson Davis, daughters Dionka Davis Jackson (Dwarka) of Monticello, Marlo Davis Smith (Jermaine) of Newborn, Hope Davis of Tucker, and Trenisha Johnson of Warner Robins; one son, Leonard Tyrone Davis of Monticello. Also grandchildren, RaMardo, Paissley, Taylor, Logan, Alayna Stewart, Cristen Jackson Ballard, Bryce Jackson, Catherine Grace and Ebonee Johnson; nine great-grands that were his pride and joy. Also, sisters, Lou Davis Minter (Charlie), Bonnie Davis, Laverne Davis Pennamon, and JoAnn Thurman (Johnny) all of Monticello, and Robbie Davis of Eatonton.
A celebration of life for Mr. Davis will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11 a.m., at St. James A.M.E. Church located at 514 Funderburg Drive, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
Public visitation will be on Friday, August, 25, 2023 at Smith and Sons Funeral Home Chapel at 923 Funderburg Drive from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
