Lady Cougars Face Tough Opponents

It has been a busy stretch of days for the Piedmont Academy fast-pitch softball team.

The Lady Cougars have taken the field for four games in recent days, facing some quality opposition in the process.

Piedmont earned an 8-2 win against Georgia Military Prep at home last Thursday. Mackenzie Plunkett went seven innings in the pitcher’s circle recording two strikeouts and scattering six hits.

Offensively, Teagan Hinson had two hits, two RBI, a double and a run. Kylee Keck and Shaniyah Lane both had a hit and RBI.

Breck Piedra scored two runs and had two RBI while Marissa Holder had a double and run.

Emily Whitwell and Kolbee Osborne both had a run and a hit and Memphis Sweat scored a run.

The game was tied 2-2 after four innings before the Lady Cougars scored six times in the bottom of the fifth inning.

On Saturday, Piedmont lost a close 4-3 contest to West Laurens High School.

Hinson, Keck, Lane, Holder, Whitwell and Osborne led the offense. Lilly Stowe and Lane both had stolen bases.

Plunkett and Whitwell both pitched against West Laurens.

The two runs scored by West Laurens in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference.

The Lady Cougars also faced Tattnall Square Academy on Saturday falling 13-1. Whitwell, Piedra, Lane, Keck and Hinson contributed offensively.

“We are playing really good teams right now,” said coach Joe Johnson. “We are trying to get better each week. We are in good shape. This is a talented team. We have some new starters in the lineup and are going through some growing pains. The players and coaching staff are working hard at every practice to get where we need to be. We are going to be just fine and are looking forward to this being another great season.”

Piedmont will host Tattnall Square on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
