Shirley Ann McGiboney Beam

Shirley Ann McGiboney Beam, age 87, of Hinesville, Georgia passed away on July 19, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.

Shirley Beam was born on July 13, 1936, in Stone Mountain, Georgia to the late Mary Elsie Haney McGiboney and ODell McGiboney.

Shirley (aka Grandma) was a vibrant member of the family. After the loss of her husband Julian Beam and son, Sidney Bart Beam in 2000, she came to live with the Elkins family in Pine Mountain, Georgia, and took very seriously her role as grandmother and caretaker. The family moved to the Savannah area in June of 2017. She helped to raise all four of her grandchildren as well as all the others that made their way through the doors of the home. In the most recent years as the kids all grew up she continued to be an integral part of the Elkins family as she continued to do all she could to take care of the house and family, and the three great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son Sidney Beam, her husband Julian Beam, her parents Mary and ODell McGiboney, and her step-mother Ora McGiboney. Her brother Alvin McGiboney also preceded her in death.

Shirley has three surviving sisters, Anitha Atha (Larry) of Loganville, Bonnie Brockman (John) of Conyers, and Frankie Johnson (David) also Daughter in law Amy (Jeff) Elkins although her only official grandson is Chris beam, she also has four more grandchildren she happily “adopted”; Josh Hall (Brittanie), Taylor Elkins, Andrew Elkins, and Matthew Elkins. Her great-grandchildren are Liberty Beam, Creed Hall, and Ledger Hall.

There will be a graveside funeral for her at Providence Baptist Church cemetery in Shady Dale, Georgia, Monday, July 24, 2023 at 11:00 am. All are welcome to join.
