Gerald Stunkel Resigns Effective Immediately

District 4 County Commissioner Gerald Stunkel has resigned from the Jasper County Board of Commissioners effective immediately as of June 29.

According to his official resignation letter submitted on Thursday, Mr. Stunkel cites the desire to put his “freedom and personal safety first.” With this, he also states that his character was “assaulted” and reputation was “slandered” due to what he claims are false accusations against him.

Mr. Stunkel was first elected to the Jasper County Board of Commissioners in 2019. He was in the beginning of his second term.
