Deputies, Investigators Are Busy with Drug Arrests, Shootings

Last Thursday, June 22, a traffic stop was conducted on Jackson Lake Road at Turtle Cove Trailway by members of the Jasper County Crime Suppression Unit.

Upon investigation a jar of suspected marijuana, several suspected THC vapes, a bag of suspected THC gummies, multiple marijuana pipes, multiple marijuana grinders, several packs of cigarettes and cigarillos, three bottles of alcohol, and approximately six pieces of folded up U.S. currency that contained an unknown white powdery substance

Both female occupants, identified as Kendal Akridge and Taylor Roberts, were under the age of 21. Kendal Akridge and Taylor Roberts were charged with multiple offenses including, Possession of a Schedule I Drug, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of nicotine products under the age of 21, and Possession of alcohol under the age of 21.

Then, on Friday, June 23, deputies responded to a call of a person shot in the area of Blue Ruin Street in the City of Monticello. Upon arrival they located a person (victim’s name withheld intentionally), with a gunshot wound to the right arm. After approximately one hour of investigating the incident, the suspect, Quincy Lamar Horton, 50, of Monticello was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, affray and reckless conduct.

Previously, in the early morning hours of June 22, deputies responded to a call of shots being fired into a dwelling in the area of Robby Street in the city of Monticello. Upon arrival, deputies observed that no one was injured. They contacted investigators with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office who responded, collected evidence and processed the scene. This case is still under active investigation with multiple jurisdictions, and no more information can be released on this case at this time.

•Vernon Richard Walker, 27, Monticello—theft by shoplifting

•Karen Patricia Kelly, 47, homeless—probation violation

•Christopher Britton Capell, 40, homeless—probation violation

•Ashley Nicole Stevenson, 27, Monticello—theft by shoplifting

•Renee Lopez, 27, Forsyth—Operation of Watercraft Under the Influence of Alcohol, Drugs or Toxicants

•Tyler Robert Downs, 35, McDonough—Operation of Watercraft Under the Influence of Alcohol, Drugs or Toxicants, Allowing Underage Children to Ride in Moving Vessel w/o wearing PFDS, endangering a Child while Operating a Vessel Under the Influence

•Charles Justin Grier, 42, Monticello—Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officer (two counts), DUI/Alcohol or Drugs, Hit and Run; Duty to Stop at or Return to Scene of Accident

•Crystal Lynn Tucker, 41, Jackson—speeding, DUI /Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

•Rico Vidal Thrasher, 50, Jonesboro—operation of Watercraft Under the Influence of Alcohol, Drugs or Toxi, operating a PWC w/o Wearing CGA PFD, Operating PWC in Hours of Darkness

•Jonathan James Moorer: 31, North Charleston, S.C.—failure to appear for a fingerprintable charge (three counts)

•Cohen Adam Hulsey, 19, Jackson—marijuana/possession less than an ounce

•Emanuel Zion Jefferies, 23, Lithonia—receipt, possession or transport of firearm by convicted felon

•Sherard Ezekial Harper, 20, Monticello—battery

•Clint Ledwayne Jackson, 59, Monticello—probation violation
