Cougars Look To Return to Championship Form

Piedmont Academy’s varsity football schedule will present some challenges in 2023.
The Cougars, who were 4-8 in 2022, open the new season Friday, August 18 against Trinity Christian School-Dublin at home.
Piedmont players are involved in summer workouts this month. Those workouts will also include a 7-on-7 passing camp at the University of Georgia.
Home games for the upcoming season will be against Trinity, Terrell Academy (September 25), Edmund Burke (September 15), Central Fellowship (September 22) and Gatewood (October 27).
Road trips include Augusta Prep (September 8), Southwest Georgia (October 6), Briarwood (October 13), Brentwood (October 20) and Lake Oconee Academy (November 3).
Clint Satterfield is entering his third season directing the Cougar program. He was 9-4 in his first season reaching the state championship game. Piedmont fell in the quarterfinals this past fall.
One key area for the team in 2023 will be quarterback after the graduation of last year’s starter Justin Reynolds. In his two years as a starter, Reynolds compiled impressive passing numbers.
Luke Welch, who also graduated, was a key force on both sides of the football and will also have to be replaced.
Overall, the program has reached the championship game in three of the last four seasons.
Satterfield said he will know more about the potential for the upcoming season once the team completes its summer workouts.
