Tyrin Lawrence Will Return to Vanderbilt

Star basketball player Tyrin Lawrence has announced he will be returning to Vanderbilt to continue his collegiate career this spring.
The decorated student athlete took to social media on June 1 announcing his decision to return to Vanderbilt by posting a graphic with the words “I’m back.”
The decision comes in the wake of his withdrawal from the NBA Draft back in May. Additionally, Mr. Lawrence also entered the NCAA “Transfer portal” which allows college basketball players to place their name in an online database to express their desire to potentially transfer.
Mr. Lawrence was a top target in the transfer portal with many schools such as Georgia, Auburn, and Texas Tech being speculated in having interest in the young student athlete. He also recently made an appearance in the NBA G League showcase where he put up 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists off the bench. Nonetheless, he made the decision to return to his collegiate home, one where he was a dominant force last year.
Mr. Lawrence averaged 13.1 points per game paired with a 50.2 percent field goal percentage. He was also responsible for many big game moments for Vanderbilt, including hitting a buzzer beater three pointer against Tennessee. He will look to take an even larger role this season.
As noted in previous coverage, Mr. Lawrence is from Monticello. He is the son of Valencia Clark and the late Ivan Lawrence. He also is the father of his young son Kylan.
After one season at Jasper County High School, he transferred to Morgan County High School where he won a state championship. He then played at the prep school Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas before joining the Commodores in 2020.
