Clerk of Courts Enjoys Job

ncludes Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Putnam, and Wilkinson counties.
The hardest part of her job is not showing any emotion and remaining impartial. “It’s hard not to get emotionally involved and not showing it,” LeAnne shared, stating it is especially difficult when people are going through tough situations. She also emphasized that neither she nor any of the staff can give out legal advice. “We can’t give out any legal advice,” she said. And her office can’t help fill out any necessary paperwork required. They can provide a list of attorneys, but they can not direct anyone to a particular attorney.
She has seen changes since her first days as a deputy clerk. Today almost everything is done online through e-filing. All payments are also done online. There are also more people today than when she started with the courts 15 years ago. Like other elected officials, LeAnn stressed the need for an accurate census count, reiterating the importance a proper census count plays in the amount of money available for budget allocation for resources for the courts and other area governmental agencies in Jasper County.
LeAnn told me she has good people around her, telling me “I love all the clerks on our circuit.” She describes her work place, her office and her officemates as the best and that they have a healthy and happy working environment. Co-workers Chrissy Mason, LaTonya Little, Ariel Nichols and Shelby Evans complete the office team she is proud to be a part of and they will be featured next week in an upcoming article.
“I’ve enjoyed my job here since the time I started. It fits my personality,” LeAnn said. “I know so many people here. I hope I’m here more than one term.”
