Gail Johnson Williams
Gail Johnson Williams, age 86, of Monticello, passed away surrounded by family, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.
Gail Johnson Williams was born in Montgomery, Ala. on August 24, 1936, to the late Ossie William Johnson and Sarah Smith Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, James L. and Ada H. Williams.
Gail moved to DeKalb County at the age of 12 and graduated from the same high school, Murphy High, that she and her future husband Jim attended. She attended college at Georgia State and Tennessee Temple College and worked in the medical field most of her life which gave her great joy in helping people.
Gail met Jim at church but didn’t date until he returned from his tour of duty as a Marine. They married on May 11, 1962. They have enjoyed 61 years of marriage serving God, working and vacationing together. She loved music, reading, being with friends and family, and traveling.
Gail was a former member of Mountain Park First Baptist Church and an active member of the Monticello Baptist Church. She served as a church secretary for a number of years and worked serving the church with mentoring, helping shut-ins, and with mission work.
She is survived by her loving husband, James “Jim” Lee Williams, Sr. of Monticello; daughters, Denise Leigh Williams of Atlanta and Kristi (Jamie) Masdon of Griffin; “adopted” family, daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Nancy and Larry Griffin and grandchildren, Travis (Aimee) Mumford and their daughter, Charlotte, and Michael (Taylor) Griffin; sister, Janet J. Burkhalter of Columbus; brother, Ossie W. Johnson, Jr. of Marietta; brothers-in-law, J. D. Williams of Houston, Texas and Hal J. (Lisa) Williams of Mississippi; sisters-in-law, June Nelson of Lawrenceville, and Grace Sollar of Monroe; and many nieces, nephews and many special friends.
According to Gail, she states; “As I leave this earthly life, I look forward to meeting my Savior for the rest of the journey!! This is a celebration of life and know that you too may have this assurance of living eternally with God in Heaven by trusting in the shed blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse your heart from the debt of sin. See John 3:16.”
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Monticello Baptist Church. Rev. David Artessa will officiate.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Adult IV Sunday School class.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Jordan Funeral Home.
