Diamond Cougars Add More Wins
Recently Piedmont Academy baseball coach Casey Moody said he believed his team was set for a late-season run.
Recent outcomes have shown the first-year Diamond Cougar coach to be correct in his assessment.
Piedmont defeated Flint River 11-4 last week after jumping out to a 7-0 lead after the game’s first two innings.
Hudson Reed led the Cougars with four hits including a double, triple and homer. He drove in three runs and scored three times.
Gavin McCart also had an RBI and run while Zach Simmons and Brayden Ross both scored twice.
Alex Statham added a hit, run and RBI.
On the bases, Chase Tayler and Ross both had two stolen bases.
Reed earned the win working all seven innings and striking out nine batters. He allowed no earned runs and scattered five hits.
The previous day Piedmont blanked Westminster Christian of Watkinsvilles 15-0. The Cougars needed just three innings to earn the win, scoring twice in the first before adding 10 in the second and three more in the third.
Taylor had a triple and three runs while collecting three hits overall. Reed drove in two runs while scored two and stealing two bases.
Jamus Wingate scored a run while driving in one and stealing two bases.
Tyler Criswell had a double and an RBI while Simmons drove in four runs and scored twice.
Eli Parker finished a hit and run scored.
On the pitcher’s mound, Statham, Cameron Anglin and Jayden Litner each saw action. Statham and Anglin both had a strikeout.
Piedmont (7-7 overall, 4-2 in region) will close out the regular season Thursday at home against Central Georgia Arts at 4 p.m.
