Nixon Mann McWilliams
Nixon Mann McWilliams passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He was surrounded by family members.
He was born on August 6, 1947, in Atlanta, to Shelley Morse McWilliams, Sr., and Dorris Elizabeth Mann McWilliams.
Nixon graduated from Cross Keys High School in DeKalb County, in 1965. He then continued his education, graduating from Young Harris College in Young Harris, and from Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, with a BA in History, a Masters of Education in Administration, and an Education Specialist in Administration. He served as a history teacher and assistant principal at Tompkins High School in Savannah, before moving to Monticello, in 1975 where he first served as Assistant Principal of Jasper County Comprehensive High School before moving to the Jasper County Board of Education. When he retired, he was serving as Assistant Superintendent.
He is survived by Mary Olsen McWilliams of Monticello, his wife of 52 years; his son John Michael McWilliams (Julie) of Cape May, N.J.; his daughter Elizabeth Lynne McWilliams Adams (Todd) of Kernersville, N.C.; and three grandsons, Matthew Brent Adams, Ian Michael McWilliams, and Liam Mann McWilliams. He is also survived by a brother, Shelley Morse McWilliams, Jr. (Linda) of Alpharetta, a sister-in-law, Bernice Olsen of Conyers, and nieces, Amy Thomas (Joe) of Loganville, and Halle Price (John) of Moore, S.C.; and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces.
Nixon was a member of Monticello Presbyterian Church where he served a term as an Elder.
A memorial service will be held at Monticello Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 11 a.m. with visitation in the Fellowship Hall at 10 a.m.
