Piedmont Golfers Improve

Members of the Piedmont Academy golf team continue to improve their game as the region tournament approaches.

In a recent match against Loganville Christian Academy, Kolby Pounds was low medalist at 37, Sawyer Freeman had a round of 40, Ridge Stroud finished at 42 and Marissa Holder was at 44.

“We have four solid golfers and it’s shown in each match,” coach Michael Wilson said. “Someone has not played their best in each but we have enough quality to where others have played well and we’ve won the match and shot around what I think we need to in order to have a chance to win state. I think we need to shoot in the 325 area and in our 9-hole matches we’ve been between 160-165. I’d love to see us shave a few strokes off and that becomes a mental battle. They need to play smart, not take unnecessary risks and throw strokes away. Each match we’ve had someone hit a couple of shots out of bounds and those are things that can be corrected with patience.”

Patience is a key on the links, Wilson said.

The golf team was set to play Gatewood at Harbor Club on Wednesday.
