William ‘Bill’ Brown Harvey
William “Bill” Brown Harvey, age 85, of Mansfield, passed away on March 22, 2023, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.
Bill Harvey was born on December 29, 1937, to the late John Harvey, Sr. and Margaret Bowes Harvey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin William Harvey; and his brothers, John “Jack” Harvey, Jr. and Neal Harvey.
He joined the Navy at the age of 17, and served on the U.S.S. Princeton for 18 months in Corpus Christi, Texas until his discharge in 1958. He starred in the movie “Battle Station” along with the actor, William Bendix.
In 1962, he married the late Bonnetta Faye Brock and had three children: Jill Ann Cummings, Karen Lynn Abbott, and the late Kevin William Harvey.
After leaving the Navy, Bill received his A&P License from Northrop University and obtained his private pilot’s license. He went to work for Eastern Airlines as an Aircraft Mechanic for 30 years. In 1972 he earned his commercial pilot’s license.
After retiring from Eastern Airlines, he worked for Kallitta and worked as a Flight Engineer, flying DC8, 727’s, and 747’s aircraft and retired at the age of 67.
In addition to his children, Bill is survived by his wife, Rosemary Montrose Harvey of Mansfield; grandchildren, Megan Abbott, Timothy Abbott, Laura Novak, Drew Cummings, Allison Cummings, Kasey Cummings, Abby Harvey, and Sydney Harvey; and sisters, Betty Collins and Margaret Mackinnon.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery in Mansfield. Pastor Bob Wooten will officiate.
