Early Voting Ends Friday, Election Tuesday

Some 385 voters have taken advantage of early voting thus far.

Monticello voters will elect a new mayor, and all Jasper County voters are eligible to vote for or against the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

Early voting lasts until tomorrow, March 17, then the polls open Tuesday, March 21, from 7a.m. to 7 p.m. After that the votes are counted, and the new mayor will take office, and the current SPLOST will continue or could be discontinued if voters do not approve it.

The county plans to use the proceeds for roads, whereas the cities of Monticello and Shady Dale have also laid out their plans.

Shady Dale will use the funds for roads and water system improvements. The city of Monticello will use it for water and sewer system improvements, public works storage facility and city facilities upgrades, infrastructure improvements.

Early voting today and tomorrow takes place from 9 am. to 5 p.m.
