Diamond Cougars Drop Two Contests
Piedmont Academy’s baseball team was finally able to return to the playing field this week with a pair of games.
The Cougars fell to Stratford Academy 6-4 at home Monday before dropping a 2-1 decision to Gatewood on the road Tuesday.
In Monday’s game with the Eagles, Piedmont trailed 3-0 after the fifth inning but put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Stratford added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
The Cougars pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh but they were not enough.
In Tuesday’s game with the rival Gators, the contest was tied 1-1 after three innings. Gatewood scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Piedmont (1-4 overall) will host Gatewood in a rematch Friday at 4:30 p.m.
The young Cougars have played well overall this spring despite the slow start record-wise. All of Piedmont’s losses have been by two runs or less.
