Superior Court Criminal Trial Week Produces Prison Sentences

The Jasper County Superior Court criminal trial week session resulted in a few lengthy prison terms and several probation sentences for defendants.

Thomas J. Griggs was sentenced to 25 years with the first seven in confinement on two separate cases. The first case included charges of sale of methamphetamine, possession of firearm by convicted felon, and possession of illegal weapon. The second case included aggravated stalking and obstruction of an officer. He was fined $3,000 and credited with time served since October 2021 to February 2022 and from March 2022 to present.

Christopher T. Austin was sentenced to 20 years with the first five to serve for child molestation. He was fined $1,000 and credited with time served from September 2021 to February 2023.

James Price, sentenced to 20 years of probation for seven counts of arson in the third degree and criminal damage to property in second degree.

Allen M. Marone, sentenced to 10 years with the first 180 days to serve in jail for criminal attempt to commit a felony. Fined $2,000.

Geobran M. Downs, sentenced to seven years for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, failure to stop at stop sign, speeding, and open container. Fined $200 and credited with time served.

Eddie B. Rice, sentenced to one year of probation for battery.

Quantonius A. Banks, sentenced to one year of probation for criminal trespass. Fined $500.

February 28 Jasper Superior Court appearances included the following sentences:

Ashlyn K. Marott, sentenced to one year of probation for possession of marijuana. Fined $500 and credit with time served.

Robert Bonner, probation revoked to 482 days in Jasper County jail for positive drug test, failure to appear for probation hearing, and several new offenses in Clayton County. He was credited with time served since November 2021 and ordered to pay towards past due balance of court fees.

Allison L. Carty, probation revoked to 90 days in jail and ordered to complete substance abuse treatment program after release. Defendant failed to pay court fees and failed to complete substance abuse program.

Robert B. Phillips, credited with time served since December 2022 for violating probation terms.

Donavan Clemons, ordered to enroll and complete Matric substance abuse class and submit to random drug screens for positive drug test.
