Fatal ATV Accident Results in Charges
Gregory Scott Walton of Mansfield has been charged with homicide by vehicle (first degree) after a four-wheeler accident last summer.
He was also charged with DUI/driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to maintain lane, and operation of a vehicle without current plate.
Kayla Marie Cleveland, 32, of Monticello, was killed July 31 when the 2020 Polaris Razor Side-by-Side she was a passenger in wrecked on Bear Creek Marina Road in northern Jasper County.
The accident occurred about 4:44 a.m., according to the report from the Georgia State Patrol. The driver of the ATV was Gregory Scott Walton, 36, of Mansfield. It is not known if either person was wearing a seat belt, and the vehicle is not equipped with air bags. Mr. Walton was taken to Macon Navicent Medical Center with serious injuries.
The ATV was traveling south on Bear Creek Marina Road. While negotiating a left curve, the vehicle failed to maintain its lane and traveled off the west side of the roadway. It struck a ditch with its rear and vaulted, striking multiple trees off the west side of the roadway before coming to rest in the wood line facing Southwest.
The charges were brought by Trooper Titus Cave with the Georgia State Patrol.
Mr. Walton received a bond Tuesday and was released.

•Brandon Tyler Gray, 32, Covington—financial transaction card fraud, financial identity fraud
•Carter Glen Ginther, 17, Monticello—going inside guard line with a weapon, liquor or drugs, possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Furnishing/Purchase/Possession of Alcohol by Person under Age 21, driving without a valid license, manufacture, sale, distribution of false ID documents
•Olivia Rose Wood, 20, Covington—DUI/driving under the influence of alcohol
•Fredericus Deshanda Moore, 41, Monticello—speeding, driving while license suspended or revoked, no insurance, windshields and windshield wipers
•Garry Adam Morgan, 39, Monticello—probation violation
•Daphine Ann Couch, 43, Monticello—discharging firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
