School Board To Conduct Interviews

Members of the Jasper County School Board will conduct interviews next Monday, for the candidates for the open District 5 seat.

Lewis Rice is not able to serve because of health issues. And his term is half over, with it expiring the end of 2024.

Four persons submitted letters of interest in the position, and the board will select one to join them probably at the March 21 meeting.

The candidates are Michelle Coward, Misty Ledford, Janice Smith, and Dwight Voyles.

Whichever one is chosen will attend trainings, and serve on the board through next year. However, board members whose terms begin January 2025, will have to run in the primary next March (2024), said Bill Schilling, board chair.

Therefore the named candidate can run for election then, as can the other interested parties if they so desire.
