Vaud Alonzo Burton III
Funeral services for Vaud Alonzo Burton III were held February 16 at the Craddock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Artie Farve officiating. Interment was held at Rosehill Cemetery.
He died February 11, 2023.
Mr. Burton was born September 9, 1940 to Carol Imogene (Heartsill) and Vaud Alonzo Burton II in Ardmore, Ok. Vaud, also known as Lonnie, was raised in the Ardmore area. He graduated from Ardmore High School in the class of 1958. After college at Oklahoma City University, he attended seminary at Phillips University and then the University of Oklahoma Medical School, becoming an anesthesiologist in 1968.
While in his medical residency, he met Nancy Jane Brittain. On August 6, 1966 he married Nancy in Monticello. They had three children, Marilyn, Alan and Michael. The U.S. Navy moved them from Oklahoma City, Ok. to Denver, Co. to Oakland, Ca. to Santa Fe, N.M. and then they settled back in Ardmore, Ok. to make their home. He and Nancy were members of the Christ Community Church of Ardmore.
Lonnie was an avid adventurer. He loved the outdoors: canoeing, hiking, biking, mountain climbing, skiing, camping, gardening, and wildlife photography. His favorite place to go was the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, where he took many trips.
He was also a lover of animals, having cats and dogs as pets all of his life. Vaud was generally quiet, unless you sparked an area of interest. If you wanted to discuss photography, canoeing, or skiing he could engage and educate you for hours. He had a love for hamburgers, ice cream, pies, and more ice cream.
He was an Eagle Scout and an active adult Scout leader, passing his love and respect for scouting to his children and grandchildren. He was loved by his family, his patients and his medical colleagues and will be sorely missed.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Vaud and Imogene Burton, and his little sister Marilyn Burton.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Burton; daughter Marilyn Wolgamott and her husband Thad of Weatherford, Ok.; sons Vaud Alan Burton and his wife Amanda of Lawrenceville, and Michael Burton of Ardmore; brother John Burton and his wife Diana of Ardmore; and grandchildren Kenny Wolgamott and his wife Lauren, Tyler Wolgamott, Tatum Wolgamott, Vaud Burton, and Lily Burton.
