Diamond Cougars Prepare for Season

Piedmont Academy’s baseball team will look to return to state championship glory this spring under the direction of a new coach.

Casey Moody is directing the Diamond Cougars in 2023 replacing former coach Matt Britt who guided the team to the state semifinals last spring.

Players on the varsity roster for 2023 include Cameron Anglin, Layne Cook, Sawyer Freeman, Carter Ginther, Tyler Griswell, Tay Jones, Michael Joseph, Jayden Linter, Avery McWhorter, Caden Mitchell, Mason Morris, Eli Parker, Brayden Ross, Zach Simmons, Caleb Smith, Alex Statham, Chase Taylor, Mason Tumlin and Jamus Wingate.

Piedmont will open the season today, Feb. 16, against Rock Springs Academy on the road. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

The Cougars will then travel to Glenwood (Ala.) for a doubleheader on Feb. 18 with games beginning at 1 p.m. Piedmont will then venture to McDonough High School on Monday, Feb. 20, at 5:55 p.m.

The Middle School Cougars will also begin play today against Rock Springs at 4 p.m.

Middle School players for the 2023 season will include Cohen Burrell, Kooper Burrell, Mason Carroll, Matthew Carter, Drew Dodd, Bryson Dudley, Brayden Edge, Levi Harmon, Connor Jones, Brayden Lewis, Isaac Lockett, Kasen Martin, Kooper Pounds, Britten Reed, Ryder Selman, Jesse Standard, Joey Standard and Carter Turner.
